She Came, She Paddled, She Conquered

Our Guest Services Manager, Erin McNaught, went to Tortola over the weekend for a Stand Up Paddle Race and took the Gold in the women's open division. Paddle Boarding has been catching on quickly over the last few years and you can now rent them here at Maho Bay during your stay. The BVI Beacon has the article referencing our staff triumph in what we consider to be an international competition!

Like Erin mentions in the article, you can see all kinds of cool stuff while paddling. Ginger in the Art Department even got to spend some time paddling with a spotted eagle ray which is really cool. It is a different perspective when paddling while standing up instead of in a kayak. So if you are looking for something new, see what the craze is all about and let someone know what you saw!

Registration

Meet this year’s Registration Staff!

These are the ladies that will be helping you throughout your stay here at Maho Bay Camps and Harmony Studios.

Here we have Charese, Erin, Alley, and Meg. Meg and Charese are both starting their first season as Registration Clerks, though all four are Maho veterans.

Meg joined Maho at the beginning of our 2009 season as a housekeeper making sure all the tents were spick-n-span upon your arrival and folding your towels into fish, stingray and other fun things! As well as working registration she occasionally volunteers in the glass blowing studio making her very own vases, ornaments, and cups. She transferred into the Registration department earlier this summer wanting to experience a different department here at Maho.

Charese started as the smiling face everyone saw at the register in the Maho Dining Pavilion for the 2008/2009 season. She left us for a more “real world” experience back in the States for one year, then realized she just couldn’t stay away! She’s been back on island and at Maho since August of this year and decided to try something new and work the front desk.

This will be the second season behind the front desk for Erin, the Registration Assistant Manager, but it will be her third year here at Maho Bay having spent her first season in housekeeping. Erin has taken full advantage of many of the same activities guests participate in while vacationing on St. John, such as scuba diving. Having gotten certified here at Maho Bay Watersports she decided to take it a little further and spent seven weeks this summer in Dahab, Egypt becoming a dive master!

Starting her fourth year here at Maho is Alley Vandenberg. Alley spent her first summer at Maho in Housekeeping then moved over to Registration. After working for two full seasons, Alley began serving as Registration Manager, and is now on her second season as the department’s fearless leader. When she is not busy coordinating the many facet of Registration, you could find her at Cinnamon bay playing volleyball or planning her awesome Euro-trip for next summer!

We’re here to help you! Please let us know if you need assistance in any way. If there is a maintenance issue in your cabin, we can put in a Work Order to have it taken care of right away. If you need advice on where to eat dinner or go shopping in Cruz Bay, we’re happy to help!

Meet the Maho Restaurant Staff

Like our guests, our restaurant staff come from all over - California, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Vermont, New Hampshire, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee.

We thought we'd give you an overview of who you'll see when you arrive for breakfast or dinner with us this season:

Starting his 3rd season with us would be Jeff, who you'll see through the kitchen window wearing tie-die shirts (made here!) at breakfast........he makes incredible granola.

Mike Jones is in his 3rd season as well. He is our "Prime Rib Night" King, and also works at the Beach Cafe.

Jeremy, starting his second season is the Zen Master of the sandwiches you'll be grabbing before a day of snorkeling or hiking. He's found mainly at our Beach Cafe during the day, serving up those smoothies and adult beverages.

Rounding out the "old timers" are Chris and Stephen, both in their 2nd seasons. Look for Chris's breads and muffins and his loaded scrambles at breakfast, and you'll see him at our "South of the Border" night as well. Stephen, one of the 3 brothers at Maho is our pizza and stromboli king on "Italian Night."

Completing our kitchen crew is a whole crop of "newbies" in their 1st season at Maho. Leigh is in charge of the morning fruit & dinner salad bar. Frank is the rising star of the Italian Night. Chris is especially great at Naan bread on Asian & Caribbean Nights. Chris is also our Speed King, whatever he does he does fast. Finally we have Ben from North Carolina and that southern charm. Leigh calls him "huggy bear" because he's so friendly.

Erik & Liam are the backbone of the kitchen. Without them we wouldn't have clean dishes, glassware or pots & pans.

Out front you'll be greeted by two charming ladies at the register, Shawna & Danielle. Shawna is in her 2nd season and Danielle just started this season. Also out front at our bar will be Sarah and Tony, both in their 2nd season. No doubt you'll be asking one of them for a cold beer to go with your popcorn at our Happy Hour or a glass of wine with dinner.

Leading this incredible team would be Mark our Restaurant Manager and Crispin our Assistant Manager. The whole team looks forward to seeing you at the Pavilion Restaurant for breakfast and dinner this season!

(pictured above we have a happy Stephen and Ben through the kitchen window, and below would be Sarah and Danielle running the bar and register.)
